What is Postpartum Care?

A postpartum caretaker or Baby Nurse is also known as a Doula, which literally means "server". We like to take things one step further and include "helper, caregiver and educator" in this definition. At Sweet P, we recognize our client's individual needs and take pains to provide whatever comfort a family may require when welcoming a new baby into the home.

All Sweet P Postpartum Specialists are professionally trained in childbirth recovery, early infant care and breast and bottle feeding support, and are infant CPR certified. They have hands-on experience working in the home to fulfill the needs of the entire family. Our Postpartum Services are tailored to fit each family's specific needs, and may include any of the following:

  • Mother care
  • Newborn and sibling care
  • Multiple births
  • Postpartum women's health & nutrition
  • Breast and bottle feeding support
  • Light meal preparation
  • Baby laundry
  • Pre and post-natal education and consulting
  • Layette shopping/nursery organization

Selecting Your Postpartum Care Specialist

At Sweet P, we take special care in hand selecting a Specialist for each client. In order to choose the best match for you, we like to determine your specific needs at a prenatal visit. By interviewing our clients personally, we can get a clear picture of what your needs will be before the baby ever arrives. This allows us to assess which one of our Postpartum Care Specialists will best complement the lifestyle and personality of you and your family. All Sweet P Postpartum Specialists are covered by professional liability insurance and have been given extensive background and reference checks which are available by request.

What are the typical hours of service for a Postpartum Care Specialist?

Our Specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is an 8 hour minimum per shift, and a 40 hour minimum per week.
